The Heart Behind the Craft

Jim has dedicated his life to mastering the art of joinery. With an eye for detail and a passion for innovation, he leads our team in creating kitchens, entertainment units, vanities, wardrobes and custom cabinetry that are not only functional but also works of art. His belief that nothing is too complex drives us to take on challenges that others might shy away from, always with the aim of exceeding client expectations.

At 7-3 Design and Joinery, we specialise in residential and commercial work that transforms ordinary spaces into extraordinary ones. With years of experience and a passion for fine craftsmanship, we are dedicated to creating custom, high-quality furniture that reflects each client’s unique style and functional needs. From intricate home bar cabinets to fully customised kitchen cabinetry, our team works closely with you to bring your ideas to life, combining expert design with meticulous attention to detail.

My love for woodwork began in 1988 at Enmore High School in Sydney, Australia, under the guidance of Paul Freeland, an inspirational wood sculptor of the 70s and 80s.

His teachings sparked a lifelong passion for the craft, instilling in me a deep appreciation for the artistry and skill involved in woodworking.

A Journey from Finance to cabinet maker

In 2010, after a successful career in the financial markets, I sought a radical change and moved to Northern British Columbia, Canada. I built a cabin on the legendary Skeena River, a place renowned for Steelhead and Salmon fishing.

The immersive experience of living in a temperate rainforest, surrounded by the majestic beauty and the scent of the towering Spruce, Hemlock, and Western Red Cedar, rekindled my love for wood. It was here that I decided to return to woodworking, setting up an open-air workshop in this idyllic setting.

Driven by a desire to push the boundaries of joinery design, I strive to create pieces that range from ultra-modern to classic Art Deco, each with a unique wow factor. By blending timber and metal, and allowing simple lines, curves, and grains to harmonise, I craft furniture and objects that are both aesthetically pleasing and functional. Often, the natural grain of the wood dictates the direction of a project, ensuring that each creation is truly one-of-a-kind.
